Insolvency of Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd.
To all our Customers
We regret to inform you that the South Korean Shipping Line Hanjin is bankrupt and has filed an insolvency request with the local Court in Seoul.
The Shipping Line, ranked No. 7 largest in the world, gave payment problems and their Banks refusing further financial assistance as the reasons for this step.
In order to protect the interests of our clients and their shipments, we have immediately terminated our collaboration with Hanjin. This also includes cargo space bookings with Hanjin's alliance partners. Shipments which have already been placed will be re-booked on alternative shipping lines. We are also trying to work out solutions for containers which are currently in circulation or are on board Hajin vessels.
PLEASE KINDLY NOTE: Hanjin ships can be seized. Should this happen, it is not possible to claim the containers which are on board. We have to plan for delays and problems before the cargo can be discharged. Also, we have to reckon with additional costs which are the responsibility of the shipper and consignee as mentioned in the waybill. Please be assured that we will act in your best interests to try and keep possible problems and penalties to a minimum.
We at WCL will make it our highest priority to keep any impact on you, as our valued customers, as low as possible.
We will keep you informaed about current events relating to the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping. Should you have any further questions, please contact your WCL Partner.
